This is not an everyday occurrence, a virgin giving birth to a child. Then when the child has arrived, he is called Immanuel, which means, "God with us." Why call this little babe God?
"God told me the child growing in me was the Son for God, the long-awaited King who would sit on David's throne and establish an eternal throne," Mary could say.
"God told me his name would be Jesus because he would save His people from their sins," Joseph could say.
"The angel told us that Christmas day to find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger because he is Christ the Lord, the Savior. Then an army of angelic beings appeared and sang for us, 'Glory to God in the highest, and peace to mankind on whom his favor rests,'" the shepherds could say.
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only, full of grace e and truth," John the Apostle wrote to make certain Jesus' divinity.
Christmas is not just a cute story and a time to feel better about ourselves and our situation. Christmas is about God becoming flesh to save us from our sins and their consequences. God came to give us hope, joy, love and peace. The Messiah came to give us more than we can even dream or imagine as of yet even though it is what we were designed to have - an eternity with the Almighty God.
Christmas is good news for all who long for more than this. You have it in the Christ-Child. Look to the manger!
Merry Christmas from us here at Underground!
