Peace in Chaos: Trusting God’s Strength, Not Our Own

Peace in Chaos: Trusting God’s Strength, Not Our Own

Life seems to throw challenges our way just when we think we’ve found our footing. My wife and I recently talked about this, sitting together amidst our own challenges—dealing with anxiety, life transitions, a new business, and the ever-present reminders of our human frailty. It’s tempting to feel overwhelmed, to let the weight of these burdens drag us down. But we remembered the story of Gideon, and how God called him to face overwhelming odds with just a handful of men.

God doesn’t need our strength; He needs our trust. Gideon’s army started with 32,000 men, but God reduced it to just 300 so that there would be no doubt that the victory came from Him. Like Gideon, we’re called to step out in faith, even when our earthly resources seem inadequate. When we focus on our own strength, we miss out on the profound peace and victory that comes from letting God fight our battles.

Learning to Let Go

Putting off our sinful nature and choosing to trust in God over ourselves isn’t a natural instinct. As humans, we want control, but as followers of Christ, we’re called to let go of that control. In times of anxiety, when our bodies feel weak or pain takes hold, we can find peace in knowing that God doesn’t need us to be the strong one. He just wants our faith that he will be faithful and His will is perfect.

This conversation with my wife was a powerful reminder to both of us. When we trust Him, we’re free to let go of fear and embrace peace—the calm assurance that comes from knowing the battle is the Lord’s and ultimately, that our salvation is won and heaven awaits us.

Scripture to Reflect On:

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14

In every trial, we have a choice: to rely on our own strength or to trust in the One who has already overcome the world. This trust frees us to face each battle with confidence, knowing that God’s power is perfected in our weakness.
