Identity.
What a loaded word these days. Our culture and context have so many things for us to consider as our primary identity. They encourage us to define our whole being by our sexuality, our politics, our passions, or our past. However, God has a very different message for us about identity. It's not unstable or changing. It's not confusing. It's grounding and empowering.
Our primary identity is being a child of God.
God wants us to use that as our grounding and our north star in the middle of questions of purpose, meaning, value and acceptance. Our existence is based on our relationship to Him and what his plan is for us. Humanity was created in the image of God and we are remade into that image through our Savior Jesus Christ.
Therefore, if we want clarity on our identity, God urges us to seek Jesus and there find our own identity in Him. Jesus shows us and empowers us to be the child God has designed us to be.
